- Russian ambassador to Vienna points to attempts to downplay the role of the Red Army in the liberation of Austria

In the mass of historical publications, as well as reports on radio and television in Austria, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Vienna, it is difficult to find an objective assessment of the events of 1945, states Dmitry Lyubinsky, Russian Ambassador to Vienna, in an interview with Izvestia.
"They say how hard it was in the first post-war months and even years during the occupation by the Allied powers. But they keep silent about how much grain, how much food was supplied to Austria by the Soviet Union in conditions of complete devastation at home," he said.
According to the diplomat, the local media also silence the role of Austrians in the overall complex of crimes of the Wehrmacht or SS on the territory of the Soviet Union.
"You will not find on the pages of the Austrian press this theme of historical repentance and historical responsibility. Nor will you find words of gratitude. This feeling is apparently alien to the current political elite with regard to the Russian Federation as the successor of the Soviet Union," the ambassador added.
