A negotiating delegation from the Palestinian Hamas movement has left for Egypt to continue consultations on a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. This was announced on April 12 by the press service of the movement.

"A Hamas delegation led by [the leader of the movement in Gaza] Khalil al-Hayya went to Cairo today at the invitation of the Egyptian side," TASS quoted the text of the statement.

Representatives of Hamas and negotiators from Egypt and Qatar are expected to discuss reaching a ceasefire agreement. Hamas also declared its readiness to "respond positively" to proposals for a long-term ceasefire and the withdrawal of the Israeli military from Gaza, as well as to conclude a deal on the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners.

On April 12, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced his intention to expand the combat zone throughout the Gaza Strip.

On March 18, the IDF announced the resumption of military operations against Hamas in Gaza. As a result of the Israeli airstrikes, more than 1,000 people were injured and over 300 were killed. The media also said that Israel had warned the administration of US President Donald Trump in advance about the resumption of attacks on Gaza.
