Norwegian skier Astrid Slind burned her starting number before the Petter Northug race in protest against the reduction in the size of the prize pool of the competition. On April 12, she posted the corresponding video on her Instagram page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

Initially, the organizers promised the winners of the women's and men's races 500 thousand Norwegian kroner (€41.34 thousand) each, but due to the small number of participants, shortly before the start, it was announced that the prize money for women would be reduced to 60 thousand Norwegian kroner (€4.9 thousand), Sport-Express clarifies.

"This does not correspond to what they promised, they also blame the participants for this. <...> I am not going to tolerate this!" the athlete quotes TV2.

In an interview with the publication, Slind also stressed that she could have participated in competitions even without the prize pool if this had been announced in advance, and not just before the start of the race.

NRK TV channel reported on March 9 that team leader Jan-Erik Olbu confessed to the Norwegian ski jumping team's attempt to circumvent the rules with equipment at the home World Championships in Trondheim. According to the publication, Olympic champions Marius Lindvik, Johann Andre Forfang and ski biathlete Jorgen Grobak were disqualified because of the "reinforced threads" sewn into their suits.
