"Bubnov motivated me — thank him for that"

In the 24th round of the Russian Football Championship this week, one of the main sensations of the spring part of the season took place: Spartak Moscow, claiming gold medals, lost at home to Dynamo Makhachkala, struggling for survival in the RPL (1:2). In an interview with Izvestia, the defender of the Dagestan team, Valentin Paltingov, commented on the victory, explaining why he sent greetings on the RPL Telegram channel to the former USSR national football team player, and now an expert and co-host on the YouTube channel "Comment. The Show", and spoke about his inclusion in the Russian national team in the autumn.
— What hurt you so much about Alexander Bubnov that you decided to send him greetings after the victory over Spartak?
— He didn't hurt me, he motivated me. I want to thank him for that. And so that in the future he doesn't write off the teams that play with the leaders.
— As a child, did you follow Bubnov's broadcasts on television when he was at the peak of his fame, analyzing the technical and tactical actions of football players, and with many of his statements he generated a bunch of memes?
- no. I remember from my childhood, when my dad was watching football, there were a couple of moments where he got to see Bubnov's performances on the airwaves. He spoke ill of him, like a grumbler and so on. But I'm not judging it because I haven't seen it myself. I don't want to speak ill of this man, because I don't know him.
— Wouldn't it be boring without him, or rather, without his bright performances?
"I just saw him." I watched two or three programs.
— Will you continue to watch? Maybe it will motivate you again?
— I really hope for him.
— Why did you play so successfully against Spartak? In the first half, it seemed from the stands that there was only one team on the field, and it wasn't about your opponent.
— Spartak is a high—class team. I think she just didn't tune in to us in the first half. And in the second, she went on the field, showed her football, and we sat low on the defensive, pressed ourselves against our goal. It's good that we played selflessly in defense and kept the victory.
— How did you get in such physical shape that you didn't leave any space for Spartak for most of the match?
— We train a lot, sometimes twice a day. Our training sessions are very difficult physically. I think they're bearing fruit.
— What are you being forced to do? Cross-country running all the time? How to work with a barbell?
"They do all kinds of things to us. Such things have not been invented yet (smiles).
— Thanks to three wins in the last four matches, Makhachkala has risen to the top ten. What are your goals for the rest of the season now?
— Keep winning. We haven't secured ourselves from relegation and transition matches yet, so we can't relax.
— You have two home matches left this season with two other contenders for gold, Krasnodar and Zenit. Do you feel that you can play against them the same way as against Spartak?
- of course. You can always beat anyone. That's why we love football. The main thing is to score more goals than the opponent.
— Did it add motivation that the head coach of the Russian national team, Valery Karpin, did not call you to the March matches of the national team?
- yes.
— What did you learn from playing for the national team in the autumn matches against Vietnam (4-0) and Brunei (11:0)?
— That you need to be stronger, more reliable and more confident.
— There were a lot of discussions in the autumn about whether we should play against such weak opponents as Brunei. How do you feel about such matches?
— It is necessary. I believe that it is necessary to keep fit in the Russian national team and hold its matches. It doesn't matter with whom.
