President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the destruction of the economy and radical nationalism are at the heart of the conflict in Ukraine. His words were quoted by BelTA on April 12.

"I often think about our brotherly Ukraine. What was at the root of this conflict? <...> The destruction of the economy was at the root," Lukashenko stressed during a conversation with journalists at a clean—up day.

According to him, on the eve of the conflict, impoverished people and "super-rich oligarchs" could be observed in the country, to whom "nationalism was thrown."

"When people were burned, for example, in Odessa (as a result of riots at the House of Trade Unions in Odessa and the arson of the building in May 2014. — Ed.) not their nationality, as they believed," Lukashenko stressed.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, said that the only solution to the Ukrainian conflict is to eliminate its root causes.
