Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has condemned the decision of the European Union (EU) ambassadors to ignore the event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Bratislava from Nazi occupation. He announced this on April 12 in the program "Saturday Dialogues" on the local TV channel STVR.

"The Russian ambassador, who was invited by the government, did not say anything in his speech that could be criticized in any way, and no one criticized his speech. I think Western diplomats should have accepted this invitation not on the basis of which ambassador was invited there, but on the basis of respect for the fallen heroes who liberated Slovakia," Pellegrini said.

In addition, the president pointed out the need to stop rewriting historical facts, and also added that past events should not be associated with current conflicts.

On April 4, Peter Marcek, a former member of the Slovak Parliament, said that it would be a disgrace for the entire state to forget the feat of the Red Army during World War II. According to him, young people in Slovakia are brought up in the same spirit, the memory of the Red Army's feat is passed on to them not only through schools, but also through parents, grandparents. Meanwhile, he continued, it is now a trend in the West to rewrite history and claim that it was the Anglo-Saxons who saved the world from fascism.
