- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated the readiness of the Russian Federation to assist in concluding an agreement between Baku and Yerevan.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov at a diplomatic forum in Antalya, confirmed to him that the Russian Federation is ready to facilitate the conclusion of a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku. This was reported on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on April 12.
"The Russian side confirmed its readiness to contribute to the process of Azerbaijani-Armenian normalization and the conclusion of a peace treaty," the statement said.
In addition, they discussed steps to strengthen cooperation and strategic partnership between Russia and Azerbaijan, as well as the schedule of joint events, which includes the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.
On the same day, the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Bayramov, agreed at a meeting in Antalya to continue the dialogue on the peace process.
On March 14, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, announced the approval of a draft peace agreement with Azerbaijan. In addition, Putin and Pashinyan discussed other issues related to regional and bilateral relations between Moscow and Yerevan.
Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan were strained, among other things, against the background of the disputed ownership of Nagorno-Karabakh, which in 1988 declared its secession from the Azerbaijan SSR. During the 1992-1994 military conflict, Baku lost control over Karabakh.
However, in September 2023, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry again took control of the region and demanded the complete withdrawal of Armenian troops from there. The next day, the parties agreed on a complete cessation of hostilities. On October 5, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a declaration recognizing the borders of Azerbaijan. It also included Nagorno-Karabakh, but armed clashes still periodically occur on the border of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
