Nechaev: not allowing Russians to attend Victory Day events will cause disappointment

Germany's refusal to allow citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus to attend events in Berlin dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the defeat of the Nazis would be a bitter disappointment. This was stated on April 11 by Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung (BZ) newspaper.
"The eightieth anniversary of the victory over Nazism is a sacred day for my people — not only for Russia, but for all the peoples of the former Soviet Union who suffered and won together," he said.
Nechaev noted that if the information about the non-admission of citizens of Russia and Belarus to the thematic event in Berlin is correct, it will be a disappointment.
"I hope that the local authorities will behave sensibly. I am optimistic because these days are important not only for the Russian embassy, but also for the German public," the ambassador said.
On April 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Russia expects all leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries to participate in the Victory Day Parade in Moscow on May 9.
