- The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to continue the dialogue on peace

At the meeting in Antalya, the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, agreed to continue the dialogue on the peace process. This was announced on April 12 by the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry on its Facebook page (ex. Twitter).
The heads of departments discussed the normalization of diplomatic relations after the completion of work on the peace treaty.
"The parties discussed the current state of affairs in the normalization process after the completion of work on the text of the Peace Agreement and the establishment of interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The ministers expressed their readiness to continue the dialogue," the Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier, on April 9, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that Baku is ready to begin steps to build trust with Yerevan. He noted that the immediate restoration of friendly relations with Armenia seems unrealistic.
Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan were strained, among other things, against the background of the disputed ownership of Nagorno-Karabakh, which in 1988 declared its secession from the Azerbaijan SSR. During the 1992-1994 military conflict, Baku lost control over Karabakh.
However, in September 2023, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry again took control of the region and demanded the complete withdrawal of Armenian troops from there. The next day, the parties agreed on a complete cessation of hostilities. On October 5, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a declaration recognizing the borders of Azerbaijan. It also included Nagorno-Karabakh, but armed clashes still periodically occur on the border of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
