Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated workers and veterans of the rocket and space industry on Cosmonautics Day. A congratulatory telegram was posted on the Kremlin's website on April 12.

"I congratulate you on Cosmonautics Day, a holiday that unites all generations of the country's citizens. And, of course, the warmest words to the pioneers, veterans of the rocket and space industry, who with their selfless work have laid the traditions of honest service to their chosen cause, Homeland, and people," the message says.

The Russian leader also noted the contribution of outstanding Russian scientists, designers, cosmonauts, engineers, military and civilian specialists who were at the origins of the national space program. He wished them to continue to implement their plans.

In addition, Putin added that the rocket and space industry should be an engine for the growth of the national economy and ensuring the technological sovereignty of the state in order to improve the quality of life of people in all regions of the Russian territory.

In Russia and around the world, on April 12, the greatest achievement of science of the 20th century is celebrated by celebrating Cosmonautics Day. On this day, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin went into space on the Vostok satellite spacecraft. The flight lasted 108 minutes, during which the ship made a free flight around the planet and successfully landed at the designated location — near the village of Smelovka in the Saratov region.
