An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred off the coast of Papua New Guinea. This was announced on April 12 by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

According to experts, the tremor was recorded at 03:47 UTC (06:47 Moscow time). The earthquake struck at a depth of 73 km and was located 855 km northeast of the city of Port Moresby, which has a population of 283 thousand people.

There was no information about casualties or damage. No tsunami threat has been announced.

A 5.0 magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia on April 8. The seismic event occurred at a distance of 156 km south-east of the city of General Santos with a population of 679 thousand people. The earthquake was located at a depth of 10 km.
