Humanity will be able to carry out manned missions into deep space in three to four generations, said Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Sergey Chernyshev on April 12.

"[Deep space] will probably be accessible to humanity in three or four generations," Chernyshev suggested in an interview with RIA Novosti.

First of all, he continued, it is necessary to study in more detail the nearest satellite of our planet, the Moon and its resources, which can become a source of oxygen and hydrogen.

The academician explained that due to the limited life of the Earth by galactic standards, in the future humanity will be forced to think about a possible relocation to the nearest planets.

In addition, the scientist believes that the creation of a lunar base will pave the way for future missions to longer distances within the Solar System. In particular, for flights to Mars, Venus and even distant asteroids.

The Blue Ghost spacecraft landed on the moon on March 2. The entire journey from Earth to the Moon took about 1.5 months. Blue Ghost is supposed to work on the Moon for about two weeks. It was clarified that these studies would help to learn more about the lunar environment.
