The attackers use a scheme by which they recommend that the victim, under various pretexts, install an application on the device that distributes malicious software aimed at stealing personal data. This was reported to TASS on April 12 by the press service of the Department for the Organization of combating the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

It is clarified that one of the fraudsters' schemes is to offer a person to perform simple actions for payment, for example, to like a post on a social network. When the victim agrees and installs the mobile app, malware is downloaded to her device, which steals all the data available on the device.

In addition, there is a second option, when attackers offer a person to install a program, for example, to monitor their health. In this case, the scammers ask the victim to enter all the information about themselves. In order not to fall for the tricks of scammers, it is necessary to install applications only from trusted sources, the agency warned.

On April 11, the Russian Interior Ministry reported that fraudsters were using a malicious application allegedly to increase Internet speeds in order to gain access to confidential data of potential victims. The department clarified that the attackers are asking Russians to install malicious software according to the instructions, which will subsequently gain access to payment means.
