Associate Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology at the N.I. Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, Ph.D. Tatiana Pavlova, how to choose and wear contact lenses correctly.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Friday, April 11, the doctor noted that one should not sleep in one-day contact lenses, since they are made of materials with low oxygen permeability, even if they are silicone hydrogel lenses.

Usually, the time of wearing lenses is determined by the manufacturer, these data must be included in the instructions. It is also important to coordinate this with your doctor when choosing lenses.

"All patients wearing lenses should use moisturizing drops throughout the day to prevent dryness. Drops with 0.1–0.2% hyaluronic acid content are especially effective," Pavlova said.

According to her, 25-30% of people overuse one-day lenses. She stressed that it is important to choose lenses with new technologies and healthier materials.

Pavlova warned on April 10 that lenses are contraindicated for people with acute respiratory viral infections and conjunctivitis. The main risk of wearing them is that they are a foreign body, and if you do not follow hygiene rules and wearing habits, inflammatory eye diseases may occur, writes RT.

On April 9, ophthalmologist Irina Kulikova said that night lenses improve vision. She explained that with myopia and astigmatism, the shape of the eye is changed, and night lenses temporarily compensate for these changes. The tear film under the lens gently affects the cornea and corrects its shape, notes 360.ru . The progression of myopia decreases in 80% of cases. The selection of night lenses takes several visits to the doctor, then they are made for the patient.

In August last year, ophthalmologist Shakhlo Makhkamova said that when taking a shower or bath, you can not take off your lenses, but warned you to remember that a strong pressure of water directed at your face can wash them off. You can steam in the sauna only in one-day lenses, which are easily changed after leaving the steam room. Bathing in the salty sea will lead to disruption of the microfilm on the surface of the optics, NSN notes.
