- The NYT reported on the lack of security guarantees for Ukraine in the draft deal with the United States

The new draft resource deal between Ukraine and the United States does not contain provisions on guarantees of Ukraine's security, despite the demands of the Kiev regime. This was reported on April 11 by the American newspaper New York Times.
It is indicated that on the same day, a Ukrainian delegation led by Deputy Economy Minister Taras Kachka arrived in Washington to discuss a potential agreement. It is noted that the new version of the document, as before, includes Ukraine's commitment to transfer half of the income from its projects related to minerals to a special fund managed by the United States.
"The new draft will also repeat the old versions in that it does not contain any mention of Ukraine's security guarantees, a point that Kiev has long insisted on and was able to include in the draft [agreement] last month," the material says.
In addition, the draft agreement also tightens the conditions put forward before. In particular, now the proceeds from the joint fund will have to cover not only all Washington's expenses for military assistance to Kiev, but also an additional "debt" of 4% per annum.
On April 4, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed hope that the resource deal with Ukraine would be signed during the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Washington a week later. He added that the American side considers the signing of the agreement with Kiev as a situation of mutual benefit.
The Wall Street Journal reported on March 29 that Ukraine would not be able to accept the new terms of the resource deal with the United States. According to the newspaper, the new agreement now provides Washington with not only access to Ukraine's rare earth metals, but also the opportunity to benefit from Kiev's economic projects in the field of metals, oil, gas and other natural resources.
The next day, American leader Donald Trump said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky wanted to abandon the deal on critically important mineral resources.
