Slovakia may incur costs of €100 million due to the outbreak of the lizard in the country. This was announced on April 10 by Slovak Minister of Agriculture Richard Takacs in an interview with Teraz takto on the local TV channel Plus.

"When we calculate all this, including the costs associated with it, the purchase of disinfection gates and other equipment, we can safely approach € 100 million," he said.

At the same time, Takach noted that the exact damage figures have not yet been determined. The minister added that during the fight against foot-and-mouth disease, specialists killed more than 7 thousand animals kept on infected farms.

Earlier, on March 22, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called an emergency government meeting due to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the southern regions of the republic. The meeting discussed the effectiveness of measures already taken by the government, cooperation between departments on the issue of combating foot-and-mouth disease, as well as cooperation with international organizations.
