On April 11, Russian defenseman Alexander Nikishin signed a rookie contract with the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL). This is reported on the official website of the team.

As specified, the 23-year-old hockey player's agreement with the club is for two years. Under the terms of the deal, Nikishin will receive $832,500 for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons, as well as a subscription bonus of $185 thousand.

"His physique and skill allowed him to achieve impressive results in the KHL (Kontinental Hockey League. — Ed.), and we believe that he will become an influential player in the NHL," said Carolina general manager Eric Tulsky.

Nikishin spent the current season in the KHL with SKA St. Petersburg. The defender took part in 61 matches, scoring 46 points, with 17 goals and 29 assists. The KHL club on its website thanked the player for his dedication and professionalism and wished him success in his future sports career.

The Montreal Canadiens NHL club announced on April 8 that it would sign a contract with another player of the St. Petersburg team, striker Ivan Demidov. It is noted that the rights to the player in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) will remain with the Russian club: if he fails to gain a foothold in the NHL, he will return to St. Petersburg.
