What explains the demand for trips in June
This year can be considered unique, since in May and June Russians will get 12 days off at once: four days each with a break in May and four more days in June, said Aleksan Mkrtchyan, Vice President of the Alliance of Travel Agencies Association.
"This has never happened in the entire modern history of Russia," he said.
According to the Labor Code, the government has the right to postpone weekends to other days during the year "in order to rationalize the use of weekends and non-working holidays by employees," explained Alexander Yuzhalin, head of the legal practice at SuperJob. This year, the day off was postponed from Saturday, March 8, to Friday, June 13. Thus, there were no additional days off in March, but in June the rest will last four days at once: from Thursday to Sunday.
In June, the sea is already warm for swimming, Aleksan Mkrtchyan added.
— Therefore, if sightseeing tours are mainly chosen for the May holidays, because the sea is still icy, then beach holidays are sold in mid-June. People are going to Sochi, Crimea, Abkhazia," he stressed.
However, on the same dates in St. Petersburg, the period of white nights, drew the expert's attention.
— That's why we see a big increase in sales for St. Petersburg. It was a lucky coincidence that such long June holidays fell on white nights," Aleksan Mkrtchyan noted.
Among other popular destinations, he named the Kaliningrad region. Prices for holidays during the June weekend are rising along with demand, the expert reminded, so you should take care of buying tickets and booking accommodation in advance.
