Holy Monday of Holy Week is a special holiday that opens the period of the most active preparation for Easter. In 2025, it falls on April 14th. On this day, the church remembers the parable of the barren fig tree, and also honors the memory of the Old Testament Patriarch Joseph. Izvestia has prepared colorful postcards and touching congratulations on the bright celebration.

Happy Great Monday: beautiful greeting cards, greetings in prose

The Great Monday services are based on two themes: the parable of the barren fig tree and the betrayal of Joseph by his brothers. The Gospel tells how, on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus wanted to taste the fruits of a fig tree. However, the fruiting season had not yet arrived, and there were no figs on the tree. Then the Son of God said: "May there be no fruit from you forever!" and the tree immediately perished. It is believed that in this way the Savior, who had never betrayed anyone, showed an example of divine justice.

In the Orthodox tradition, Joseph is considered the Old Testament prototype of Christ. According to legend, he was the favorite child in the family, besides, he had a prophetic gift since childhood. Out of envy, his older brothers sold him to Egyptian slave traders for 20 pieces of silver. But thanks to his intelligence, Joseph was able to gain freedom and become Pharaoh's confidant. Like Jesus, he survived the betrayal of those closest to him, but forgave the offenders and saved them from death.

Great Monday is an important stage on the way to Easter, so it's worth congratulating your family and friends on this day. Here's how it can be done:

"Congratulations on Great Monday! Holy Week begins today, a time of repentance, humility and prayer. I wish you to join it with a pure heart, bright thoughts, good intentions and joy in your soul. May love for the Lord and your neighbors light up your life, and may faith help you walk the right path!"

"On Holy Monday, I wish you peace, love and God's grace! May your soul never become like a barren fig tree, and may the source of kindness and compassion in your heart never run out. God bless you and your loved ones!"

"Happy Holy Week, happy Holy Monday! May peace, harmony and joy enter your life on this day, and sorrows and sorrows disappear without a trace. I wish you good health, harmony in your family and joy in your heart!"

Happy Holy Week: pictures with inscriptions, congratulations in your own words

One of the easiest ways to congratulate your loved ones on the beginning of Holy Week is to send them a themed postcard or a picture with an inscription. You can accompany them with warm wishes. Here are some examples:

"Happy Holy Week, my dears! May the radiance of divine grace light up your home on the eve of Easter, and joy and love knock on the door. I wish you to be kinder to each other, keep the trembling flame of faith in your soul and protect your heart from harmful passions."

"Congratulations on Holy Week! I wish you wisdom, humility, hope and grace! May the guardian angel spread his white wings over you, give you peace of mind and inspiration!"

"Congratulations on Holy Week! Easter is just around the corner, and it is important to meet it with a light heart, a pure soul and bright thoughts. May your faith be strong and your hope never fade!"

What to wish an Orthodox person during Holy Week

Holy Week is dedicated to the last days of the earthly life of Jesus Christ. At this time, the strictest fasting is observed, and believers immerse themselves in reflections on the sufferings of the Savior and his sacrifice in the name of humanity. Therefore, wishes during this period should be appropriate and consonant with the meaning of the celebration.

"Happy Holy Week! May hope and faith in the Lord lead you to the majestic miracle of Easter, may love and joy fill your home, and may your heart become a fertile source of goodness!"

"Congratulations on the beginning of Holy Week! May this difficult, but bright and joyful time strengthen your spirit and clear your mind of worldly worries. I wish you to follow the Word of God, remember the salvation given to humanity and greet every new day with gratitude!"

"With the beginning of Holy Week! May she bring you peace, hope and grace! May the Lord bless you and your family for a long and happy life."
