The state traffic Inspectorate announced mass inspections of drivers
On Friday and the weekend (April 11-13), the State Traffic Inspectorate will conduct massive and continuous checks of drivers, special attention will be paid to the search for drunk motorists. The upcoming raids were announced by the regional departments of the department.
Traffic police will carry out preventive measures on the roads in St. Petersburg, as well as in Leningrad, Chelyabinsk, Ryazan, Ulyanovsk, Tver, Kursk, Bryansk, Smolensk, Tula, Penza and other regions.
"Before the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate traditionally reminds motorists about the inadmissibility of driving under the influence of alcohol and warns about responsibility for driving under the influence. Mass checks on Russian roads to identify drivers who have got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol are carried out by traffic inspectors on an ongoing basis," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.
He noted that, according to current legislation, driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as refusing to undergo a medical examination, provides for the deprivation of a driver's license for 1.5–2 years and a heavy fine. Those who got behind the wheel drunk, having already been deprived of their rights, are already facing criminal liability, the Traffic police reminded.
"If you see that a drunk person is driving, the driver of the vehicle is behaving inappropriately on the road, creating dangerous situations, do not be indifferent: report this to the police. By doing this, you can save someone's life," Anton Belan urged.
He stressed that the staff of the State Traffic Inspectorate will definitely take all necessary measures to respond to such messages.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Sevastopol State Traffic Inspectorate is preparing to turn on traffic cameras to track violations by drivers of the rules for using a mobile phone. Thus, the driver's use of a smartphone while driving will begin to be recorded in all three cities of federal significance in Russia. This system is already in effect in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
