The court extended Martirosyan's arrest in the case of bribes to an ex-Defense Ministry cadre

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow extended the arrest of businessman Lev Martirosyan, a defendant in the case of bribing the head of the main personnel department of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Yuri Kuznetsov, for a month. This was announced on April 11 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

Martirosyan will remain in custody until May 12.

Martirosyan's defense claims that monetary transactions between the defendants took place as part of the transaction, and the land was purchased and was not a bribe. Kuznetsov's wife, according to the lawyer, transferred money to Martirosyan because he was engaged in the development of their land.

Earlier, on April 10, the court extended Kuznetsov's arrest. It is specified that Kuznetsov will be in custody until May 11 inclusive. The meeting was held behind closed doors.

In May 2024, the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case against Kuznetsov in May for receiving a particularly large bribe (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the investigation, Kuznetsov, as head of the 8th Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, received a bribe from "representatives of commercial structures." Martirosyan was also arrested at the same time.

In August of the same year, it was reported that Kuznetsov was cooperating with the investigation and testified against Martirosyan. In the same month, the Basmanny court seized the apartment of Kuznetsov's daughter with an estimated value of 50 million rubles. Searches were also conducted at the place of residence of the serviceman, during which about 100 million rubles and luxury goods were seized. According to the investigation, Martirosyan handed over a bribe to a general in Krasnodar in the form of a land plot and an apartment building worth more than 30.5 million rubles.
