The orthodontist stated the need to adjust the bite after 40 years

Correction of bite in adulthood is not only possible, but also necessary to maintain dental health. Victoria Radko, head of the orthodontic department of the EUROKAPPA clinic Scientific and Clinical Center, told Izvestia on April 13.
According to the expert, proper bite helps to avoid a variety of problems: from enamel abrasion to gum disease. It also provides high—quality prosthetics - crowns and implants installed with an incorrect bite may not be able to withstand the load. In addition, orthodontic treatment can alleviate the symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction, which often occurs in adults.
The doctor called aligners, transparent mouth guards that are almost invisible and do not interfere with communication, a particularly comfortable method of correction for patients over 40 years old.
"At the age of 40, the teeth were in the wrong position for a long time, and the load on the jaw was unevenly distributed. Often, patients no longer have individual teeth, and without bite correction, it is impossible to install implants or even simple crowns — they simply cannot withstand the load," Radko explained.
The expert noted that even with crowns or implants, orthodontic treatment is feasible, although it requires a special approach. Implants cannot be moved, and teeth with crowns can only be moved to a limited extent.
"Modern orthodontic methods allow us to solve such problems, and aligners provide an opportunity for comfortable and effective treatment. The main thing is not to delay the visit to the doctor. At any age, bite correction not only improves aesthetics, but also helps to maintain health," concluded Victoria Radko.
Earlier, on April 11, Irina Kornilina, chief physician of the EUROKAPPA Scientific and Clinical Center, told Izvestia about how calcium affects the condition of the enamel and roots of teeth. The expert explained that in adults, calcium intake no longer affects the enamel. The doctor explained that although calcium is important for bones, taking it does not strengthen tooth enamel, and during orthodontic treatment it does not affect the movement of teeth and their fixation. A balanced diet is more important for dental health than taking supplements.
