Insufficient motivation and involvement of employees in the workflow can lead to a decrease in productivity, Arsen Sarkisov, founder of the ARS Insurance consulting company, told Izvestia on April 12. He listed several other factors that hinder the increase in employee productivity.

"In the last two years, when the shortage of personnel is noticeable in almost all industries, some enterprises are increasing the number of working hours in order not to slow down the pace of production. However, this path leads to fatigue and decreased efficiency. Optimizing working hours and implementing flexible schedules can help improve employee performance," the expert noted.

According to him, low wages, limited career prospects, and lack of recognition from management reduce employee motivation. This is especially noticeable in companies where staff development programs are ineffective and the corporate culture does not provide for employee support.

In addition, inefficient business processes have an impact.

"Many companies are caught between technological constraints, staff shortages, and the need to maintain their market position. Russian business uses different optimization methods depending on the company structure. This may be such an unpopular measure as staff reduction, as well as outsourcing functions, introducing digital technologies for routine processes, optimizing purchases and reducing inventory," Sarkisov also added.

However, there is a shortage of modern skills and knowledge. As the expert explained, the discrepancy between the education system and the needs of the labor market leads to the fact that many workers do not have the necessary competencies. This is especially true for digital skills and soft skills, which are in demand in modern conditions. In his opinion, in high-tech industries, where knowledge is rapidly becoming obsolete, employees need constant training.

"Unfavorable working conditions, lack of health protection programs and high stress levels negatively affect productivity. Taking care of the physical and mental health of employees directly affects their performance and loyalty to the company. That is why the introduction of VMI and well-being programs has become one of the notable trends in the labor market, and we see its growth every year," said Sarkisov.

In addition, he noted that technology and automation in many industries have slowed down somewhat. In small and medium-sized companies, modernization difficulties are associated, among other things, with a lack of financial and credit resources, a shortage of qualified specialists, and concerns about changes. It also affects the quality of the work.

"Geographical and social barriers prevent workers from moving to regions or industries with higher opportunities. This leads to an imbalance in the labor market and inefficient allocation of resources," Sarkisov said.

In his opinion, the introduction of flexible schedules and optimization of working hours, updating management methods, developing motivation and recognition programs for achievements, and investing in employee training and development will help increase productivity. At the same time, health and well-being programs should be created, safe and comfortable working conditions should be ensured, modern technologies and automation of processes should be introduced.
