Auto expert explained the harm of the "start-stop" system for the motor

Due to the operation of the "start-stop" system, additional loads occur on the engine and engine oil, which requires special attention from the car owner. This was announced on April 11 by Roman Sokuev, head of the Sintec Lubricants Technical Expertise Center.
This system turns off the engine during short stops and quickly starts it when the accelerator pedal is pressed. The technology is designed to reduce fuel consumption and reduce emissions in urban environments, but regular engine start-up means increased engine wear.
"At this moment, the oil does not have time to flow through the oil channels to the lubrication units, which increases the boundary friction. In the "start-stop" mode, this is repeated dozens of times, especially in traffic jams. This leads to accelerated degradation of the oil, increases the risk of its oxidation, as well as the accumulation of low—temperature deposits," the Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes Sokuev.
The expert noted that oil manufacturers take into account the features of the "start-stop" system, modern engine oils with increased thermal stability, enhanced anti-wear and extreme pressure properties and low viscosity during cold start are suitable for such engines (for example, according to ACEA C2/C3 standards or the latest Volkswagen or Mercedes-Benz specifications). According to the expert, when using the "start-stop" system when traveling around the city, some experts recommend reducing service intervals by 10-15%.
On April 10, auto expert Andrey Kochnev said that a sudden change in the weather poses a serious danger to motorists who have already switched to summer tires. Summer tires lose their elasticity at low temperatures, which significantly impairs their grip on the road, especially on snow and ice.
On April 4, auto expert Alexey Kryukov said that repainting car body parts due to small chips and scratches is not worth it for a number of reasons. When selling a car, this will raise questions from a potential buyer who suspects the seller of concealing the car's involvement in an accident. At the same time, with native paint, the price of the car on the "secondary market" is higher.
