Salmonella is an extensive group of microorganisms. One of their species, Salmonella enterica, is very pathogenic to humans, including it can be the causative agent of typhoid fever and paratyphoid. Andrey Pozdnyakov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, infectious disease specialist, chief physician of the INVITRO-Siberia Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory, told Izvestia on April 13 about how salmonella can be contracted and what symptoms characterize this disease.

"The products that are infected are indistinguishable from the usual ones. Infected eggs, meat, milk, and offal are most common. Salmonella can enter the body both through ingestion and by contact. This microorganism is very resistant to the external environment, can easily tolerate temperatures up to 70 degrees. Everything above kills salmonella in an average of 10 minutes, and boiling it instantly," he said.

The symptoms of salmonella infection are similar to a traditional intestinal infection: vomiting, fever (with a high dose of microorganisms), abdominal pain and diathesis syndrome.

"Salmonellosis has a very characteristic stool, it is called "swamp mud type." On average, it takes from 12 hours to several days from infection to the first symptoms. After the manifestation, you should immediately consult a doctor to prescribe treatment," the infectious disease specialist added.

Earlier, on April 8, Ekaterina Kashukh, a gastroenterologist and expert at the Hemotest laboratory, told Izvestia that nuts strengthen heart health and improve memory, help to get sick less and recover faster after infection. However, in people with a predisposition to allergies, even a small portion of peanuts, cashews or walnuts can cause hives and even anaphylactic shock.
