A Finnish Armed Forces mercenary was sentenced in absentia to 14 years in prison.


A court has sentenced Finnish citizen Koivisto Tero Olavi to 14 years in prison in absentia for participating in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported on April 11 by the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia.
"The investigation and the court established that Koivisto Tero Olavi arrived in Ukraine in 2022 and voluntarily joined the Ukrainian armed forces as a mercenary. He underwent military training, was provided with firearms, ammunition, uniforms and special equipment," the UK's Telegram channel reported.
It is specified that he arrived in Ukraine in 2022. After that, he participated in military operations against Russian military personnel on the side of the Kiev regime.
He was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict"). He was sentenced in absentia to 14 years of imprisonment. The mercenary is on the international wanted list.
On April 10, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic sentenced Nicholas Cha, a 25-year-old Brazilian citizen, to seven years in prison in absentia for participating in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is specified that he fought as part of the International Legion in the Kramatorsk area.
