Russians named "Grass at Home" by the group "Earthlings" as the most "cosmic" song — 37% of respondents chose this track. The top also included the "3000 Stars" of "Semantic Hallucinations" (14%). By Cosmonautics Day, the HiFi streaming service Zvuk conducted a large-scale survey, finding out which musical compositions Russians would send to representatives of extraterrestrial civilizations. Izvestia got acquainted with the results of the study on April 12.

Interestingly, the Russians recognized Vitas as the most "cosmic" performer — 28% of the survey participants voted for him. Other artists whose music, according to listeners, best conveys the atmosphere of the unknown were Moby (15%), Jean-Michel Jarre (13%), David Bowie (12%) and Daft Punk (10%).

The study also revealed the preferences of Russians in "intergalactic" musical genres. Electronic music became the leader (36%), followed by experimental music (15%), classical (10%), progressive rock (10%) and future punk (10%). The synthesizer was recognized as the main "space" instrument — 31% of respondents associate its sound with weightlessness.

When asked which songs they would send to aliens as a hallmark of Earth culture, Russians most often named Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" (13%), Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" (13%) and Kino's "A Star Named the Sun" (12%). This symbolic "golden fund" of humanity also includes "We Are the Champions" Queen (10%) and "The Sorcerer's Doll" of "The King and the Fool" (10%).

Of particular interest are the musical preferences of Russians for contemplating the starry sky. U2's "With or Without You" leads the way here (19%), followed by The Beatles' "Hey Jude" (17%) and Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" (16%).

The cosmic theme is also reflected in cinematic preferences. Russians named "Main Title Theme" from "Star Wars" the best soundtrack from science fiction films, "Derezzed" from "Tron: Legacy" came in second place, and "Clubbed to Death" from "The Matrix" took third place.

Russians' literary preferences in space subjects were topped by the book "Alice's Journey" by Kir Bulychev (18%), followed by "Dune" by Frank Herbert (17%) and "It's Hard to be a God" by the Strugatsky brothers (16%).

The study showed that Russians associate space not only with music, but also with special sounds: echoes in the void (28%), rocket launch (21%) and the whistling of meteorites in the distance (21%). These data confirm the deep connection between the space theme and the sound perception of the world among the inhabitants of Russia.

Earlier, on April 1, Izvestia reported that the song in Bashkir had entered the Shazam world chart. Homay's single took seventh place there on March 31, two points ahead of Lady Gaga's Abracadabra. The song in Bashkir is dedicated to the heroine of the epic "Ural-Batyr" Khumai.
