Colombian accused of cocaine smuggling to stand trial in Moscow region


A Colombian citizen who is accused of shipping and smuggling cocaine will be tried in the Moscow region. This was announced on April 11 by the press service of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office.
"The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation has approved an indictment in the criminal case against Colombian citizen Munoz Ramirez Carlos Alberto under Part 5 of Article 228.1, paragraphs "a", "b" of part 4 of Article 229.1, paragraphs "a", "d" of Part 4 of Article 228.1, paragraph "a" of Part 4 of art. 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal transfer and smuggling of narcotic drugs on a large and especially large scale")," the agency said on its website.
According to the investigation, in 2016, a man with accomplices smuggled 2.3 kg of cocaine from Colombia to Russia. At the same time, narcotic substances were found in an international postal item at the Sheremetyevo airport in the capital.
In addition, the defendants used a similar method to transfer drugs weighing 972 g from the Republic of Paraguay to Russian territory through the post office at Vnukovo airport. It is noted that the contraband was seized by law enforcement officers. The criminal case was sent to the Moscow Regional Court for consideration.
Earlier, in December last year, Ramirez Munoz, accused of smuggling and trafficking narcotic drugs, was extradited from the Republic of Colombia to Russia, accompanied by employees of the National Security Service Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia. It was noted that in 2016, the accused, along with accomplices, organized the transportation of cocaine from Colombia to Russia by air. The drug with a total weight of more than 3.2 kg was hidden in two mail items.
