France announced the planning of military operations against the Russian Federation

The French military is making accurate maps of the area on the Romanian border with Ukraine and Moldova in case of a possible clash with Russia. As Le Figaro newspaper reported on April 10, special attention is paid to the corridor between the foothills of the Carpathians and the Danube.
"The 28th geographical group, attached to the engineering brigade, went to Romania to conduct accurate and modern topographic surveys. <...> 350 soldiers are involved in operations, as well as in planning," the article says.
As explained by French Colonel Jerome, the purpose of the mission is to provide the allies with the necessary "updated data on the expected battlefield." He added that the armed forces of NATO countries should have an idea where they can deploy their weapons systems.
On March 24, the Tribune reported that in France, the number of reservists has increased sevenfold to 10,000 since the beginning of 2025. The newspaper recalled that President Emmanuel Macron urged citizens to think about protecting their homeland, calling Russia "the main threat to France and Europe."
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted on April 9 that the contradictions in Macron's words, who first proposed negotiations with Moscow on behalf of Europe, and then spoke about the need to protect Europe from Russia with French nuclear weapons, were most likely caused by changes in atmospheric pressure or natural phenomena.
In his address to the nation on March 5, Macron stated that he intends to discuss the use of nuclear weapons in order to protect the entire European Union (EU). Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the French president's statement about the Russian threat to Europe confrontational. He noted that Macron's speech can hardly be perceived "as a speech by a head of state who thinks about the world."
