The acreage in Russia in 2025 will increase to about 84 million hectares. This was announced on April 11 by Dmitry Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, during a working trip to the Rostov region, where a meeting was held on seasonal field work in Russia.

"In 2025, the total sown area is projected to be about 84 million hectares, which is about 1 million hectares more than it actually was last year. Of these, about 20 million hectares are under winter crops. An assessment conducted in April showed that more than 93% of winter grain crops are in good condition. This is especially significant given the extremely difficult weather conditions of last year. 55.8 million hectares are planned for spring crops this year. Oilseed crops are expected to increase by almost 600,000 hectares. I ask the management of the subjects to ensure control over compliance with the forecast structure of the acreage. This is a kind of guarantee of a balanced harvest. The spring sowing season is entering an active phase — farmers from 42 regions are already working in the fields. Winter crops are being fertilized at a rapid pace. Almost 3 million hectares have been sown with spring crops," Dmitry Patrushev said.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that during the entire period of spring field work, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia and the regions should monitor the availability of financial resources and means of production for farmers, and the government retains various instruments of financial and non-financial support.

He drew attention to the fact that more than 40 billion rubles have been allocated to secure new concessional loans in 2025, of which 34 are provided for "short-term" loans. Farmers can send them to prepare for seasonal field work. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the dynamics of lending this year is better than last year. According to him, it is during the spring sowing period that the bulk of federal state support funds should be brought to farmers.

Dmitry Patrushev stressed that there are still measures aimed at updating the agricultural machinery fleet, including preferential leasing. The Russian government is additionally allocating more than 4 billion rubles to recapitalize Rosagroleasing, which will increase the supply of self-propelled vehicles. The Deputy Prime Minister also spoke about the continuation of the planned transition to seeds of his own selection, for which state support measures are provided. By the end of 2024, the provision of seeds from our own selection amounted to more than 67%.

Patrushev noted that it is especially important for the regions to monitor the implementation of fire safety measures on agricultural lands and facilities of the agro-industrial complex, as well as to keep the phytosanitary situation in the fields under control.

On March 12, Patrushev announced that the government had provided more than 530 billion rubles for financing the agricultural industry and rural development in 2025. He added that since this year, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture has started implementing the national project "Technological food security".
