A militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who is preventing evacuation in the Kursk region, was sentenced to 15 years in prison

The court sentenced Vitaly Ozimuk, a militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), who prevented the evacuation of civilians from a number of settlements in the Kursk region. This was announced on April 11 by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

He was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("The commission by a group of persons by prior agreement of a terrorist act that entailed grave consequences").

"In the period from August 6 to September 18, 2024, being in the settlements of Oleshnya, Gogolevka, Kazachya Loknya of the Sudzhansky district, as well as in the village of Veseloe in the Glushkovsky district of the Kursk region, in order to destabilize the activities of the authorities, Ozimuk prevented the evacuation of the civilian population," the message on the Investigative Committee's website says.

According to the court's decision, Ozimuk was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with the first three years served in prison, and the rest in a high-security penal colony.

It is specified that Ozimuk illegally entered the territory of Russia in August 2024 in order to commit a terrorist act. On September 18, he was detained by servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces.

Earlier that day, the court sentenced two servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to 15 and 16 years in prison. They were found guilty of obstructing the evacuation of civilians in Sudzha, Kursk region.
