In South Korea, a collapse occurred during the construction of a subway tunnel

The collapse occurred in Gyeonggi Province in South Korea during the construction of a subway tunnel, one person was missing. This was reported on April 11 by the Yonhap news agency.
"The incident occurred at 15:13 (local time; 09:13 Moscow time. — Ed.), as a result of which a section of the road above the ground collapsed, and several nearby buildings were also damaged," the article says.
According to the agency, communication with the five workers who were at the facility was initially interrupted. Later it turned out that three of them were safe, and they managed to establish contact with another one, but it turned out to be blocked underground. The agency reports that the excavator driver is missing.
In addition, the city authorities issued an evacuation order for residents of the surrounding area, citing concerns about possible additional collapses.
"Currently, residents are being relocated to local schools," the newspaper clarifies.
Earlier in the day, a report was received about cracks appearing on several pillars at the construction site. In this regard, the movement of cars and pedestrians was completely blocked on a kilometer-long section of the six-lane road in the tunnel area. At the time of the collapse, representatives of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, as well as the POSCO E&C construction company, were investigating the causes of the cracks and conducting safety surveys of the facility.
On February 25, three people were killed and five injured when a construction suspension platform collapsed onto a highway in Cheonan, South Korea. While workers were moving steel beams between the pillars using a crane, five 50-meter-high steel beams supporting the bridge collapsed.
