The expert named the mandatory spring procedures for the car

Tire replacement is only part of the spring work package that will help avoid serious problems with cars in the future. In addition, you should pay attention to the condition of the battery, suspension, as well as the level of oil, coolant and brake fluid. Dmitry Nikolaev, product manager of ENERGON (DELTA brand), told Izvestia what measures motorists need to take after a sharp cold snap to prepare their cars for the warm season on April 11.

According to him, the battery charge (rechargeable acid battery) decreased over the winter if the car was often stationary or only short trips were made on it.

The expert recommends checking the voltage: a reading below 12.8 V indicates the need to recharge or even replace the battery. It is also important to clean the terminals of oxides, which can degrade the contact.

Car owners may not know that they are buying a stolen part.

However, it is necessary to change the rubber as soon as the temperature stabilizes. However, you also need to check the tread depth, tire pressure, and carefully inspect them for damage. Nikolaev drew attention to the fact that summer tires are not only a matter of comfort, but also of traffic safety.

The expert called suspension and brake system diagnostics an equally important part of preparing a car for the warm season.

"Check the suspension — its components are harmed by reagents, salt and sand, diagnose the braking system. If you notice any unusual sounds during braking or vibration, do not delay your visit to the car service," the specialist suggested.

Nikolaev strongly recommended a thorough car bottom cleaning. He explained that salt and reagents remaining on the body and in hidden cavities accelerate corrosion processes. High-quality cleaning of the bottom and arches will help prevent the appearance of rust.

The expert also advises checking the levels of technical fluids — engine oil, coolant and brake fluid, as well as the condition of the cabin filter.

"In the spring, it is better to prevent the air conditioner from accumulating moisture or bacteria in it. This will eliminate unpleasant odors and improve the system's performance," the specialist added.

Preparing a car for the warm season is not just a formality, Nikolaev clarified, but also an opportunity to avoid serious and expensive repairs in the future.

Earlier, on April 10, Andrey Kochnev, head of the Alfa-Leasing Group's motor transport department, told Izvestia about the risks of using summer tires in snowfall. The specialist noted that an insufficient number of slats on summer tires reduces braking performance and increases the risk of skidding. He recommends, if possible, to abandon trips in such conditions or consider the option of a temporary return to winter tires.
