Alexander Ovechkin beat Wayne Gretzky in the number of NHL games

Russian forward of the Washington Capitals hockey club Alexander Ovechkin beat Canadian Wayne Gretzky in the number of matches played in the National Hockey League (NHL).
In the game against the Carolina Hurricanes, Ovechkin's team won 5-4. This was his 1,488th game, thanks to which he rose to 26th place in the list of league record holders in the number of matches played.
It is noted that Ovechkin ranks third among current NHL players, second only to St. Louis Blues defenseman Ryan Suter (1,524 games) and Carolina defenseman Brent Burns (1,493).
Ovechkin scored his 895th goal in the NHL regular season on April 6 in a match against the New York Islanders, breaking Gretzky's record of 894 goals scored. The Russian hockey player was congratulated on the record by the TV channels of the National Media Group and the leader of the group "Hands Up!" Sergey Zhukov. The performer dedicated a clip to the hockey player's favorite song from the repertoire of the musical group with a modified text in honor of the record goal to the historical achievement.
