A hazel dormouse has emerged from hibernation in the forests of Moscow. This was reported by biologists of the Moscow Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection on Thursday, April 10.
According to experts, the red-haired animal leaves its burrow in April and returns to its usual life, which is hidden from prying eyes. This rare species is listed in the Red Book of Moscow, reports 360.ru .
The awakening of this animal is considered one of the signs of the onset of the climatic spring, writes "Moscow 24".
The hazel dormouse is a representative of mammals that looks like a mouse, but its long tail is decorated with a flirty light or dark tassel. She moves through the trees, foraging for food, willingly eats acorns, berries, seeds and linden nuts, according to the Moscow City News agency.
Experts have identified her habitat in the capital. These are the Losiny Ostrov National Park, the Bitsevsky Forest and Izmailovo natural and historical parks, as well as the green territories of the Krasnopakhorsky district, writes RT.
In January, it was reported that beavers, weasels and hares are found in the natural territories of Moscow. In particular, the beaver in the capital's Red Book is assigned the third category of rarity.
