The death toll from the collapse of the roof of a club in the Dominican Republic has increased to 221 people. This was announced on April 10 by the director of the Center for Emergency Situations (COE) Juan Manuel Mendes.

"Unfortunately, at the moment we have 221 dead," the Listin Diario newspaper quoted him as saying.

The COE director also added that the lives of 189 people were saved. Speaking about the death toll, Mendes couldn't hold back his tears. According to him, it was the most difficult task in 20 years that he faced while heading the center.

The roof of a nightclub in the Dominican Republic collapsed on April 8 during a party by singer Rubby Perez. The cause has not yet been determined. According to Waldo Ariel Suero, a doctor, there are medical workers among those who are considered missing and dead.

The Russian Embassy in the Dominican Republic told Izvestia that, according to preliminary data, there are no foreign citizens on the lists of dead and injured.
