The doctor revealed the danger of contact lenses

Associate Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology at the N. I. Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, Ph.D. Tatiana Pavlova spoke about the dangers of contact lenses.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, April 10, the specialist pointed out that contact lenses, like any medical product, can pose a danger if used improperly. They are a foreign body, therefore, if hygiene and storage conditions are not observed, they can lead to inflammatory eye diseases.
"Lenses are often removed from blisters with dirty hands, which leads to the entry of microorganisms into the pelvic space and the development of inflammatory diseases of the ocular surface," the doctor noted.
The use of lenses is contraindicated for people with eye diseases: conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, and it is also worth giving them up during the period of exacerbation of allergic reactions, with acute respiratory viral infections. In addition, you can not swim in the pool or open water bodies with lenses.
The selection and wearing of lenses must necessarily be accompanied by regular monitoring by a specialist.
On April 9, it was reported that doctors at the L.M. Roshal Children's Clinical Center rescued a 16-year-old teenager who had not taken off his daily lenses for three months. An ambulance brought the young patient to the hospital. He complained of eye pain, photophobia, blurred vision and swelling of the eyelids, notes 360.ru .
Specialists diagnosed a corneal ulcer in the left eye, and a foreign body in the form of a tissue villi in the right eye, which was partially covered with newly formed tissues. Against the background of the ulcer, there was a high risk of perforation and melting of the corneal layers, which could lead to severe inflammation and even blindness, the Moscow City News Agency reports. Doctors promptly prescribed treatment for him: antibacterial drops, gels, injections and root protectors, the website says. kp.ru .
The teenager has already been discharged. Now the guy will have to rehabilitate, and he will not be able to wear lenses for at least six months. Life.ru .
