- The State Duma called the risks of the EU in the seizure of frozen assets of the Russian Federation

The European Union, trying to appropriate frozen Russian assets, is taking significant risks, so not all countries are ready to support these plans. Nikolai Arefyev, First Deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, said this on Thursday, April 10.
Arefyev suggested that Hungary, Slovakia and the former Warsaw Pact countries were among those who refused to use frozen Russian assets.
The parliamentarian added that the EU would have appropriated Russia's money long ago if it could have done so without risks. He explained that in this case we are not even talking about the capital itself, which lies in European banks, but about interest.
"Both in our country and in their constitutions, it is written everywhere that private and state property are sacred, they cannot be taken away. And if you can't, then the legal circle closes here: you want to take it, but it's not easy to do it," the deputy said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
Earlier in the day, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, said that the European Union was holding talks with various countries regarding the use of frozen Russian assets, RT reports.
She noted that some countries are categorically against this, but did not name them, adding that this information is not difficult to obtain, according to the website. kp.ru .
On February 24, French President Emmanuel Macron said that the Russian assets frozen by the EU could not be confiscated, as this initiative contradicts the laws of international law.
Earlier, on February 4, the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU was working on the "most creative" use of Russian frozen assets to provide assistance to Ukraine.
