In Ingushetia, suspects in connection with ISIS and a gang that attacked a traffic police post were detained

In the Republic of Ingushetia, two suspects were detained in connection with the "Islamic State" (IS, ISIL, the organization is recognized as a terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation), as well as a gang that attacked a traffic police post and killed police officers in April 2023. This was reported to Izvestia on April 10 by a source in the operational services.

According to him, 33-year-old Tamaskhanov M. and 37-year-old Sultygov M. repeatedly contacted an accomplice of the IG cell in Ingushetia. At the same time, they knew that the cell was preparing attacks on police officers in the republic, but did not report this to law enforcement agencies.

In addition, the detainees discussed organizing financial assistance to terrorists under the guise of charity and collecting funds from Muslims in Ingushetia.

It is clarified that so far Tamaskhanov and Sultygov are suspected under Article 205.6 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Failure to report a crime").

In April 2023, extremists fired at the Volga-14 police post, law enforcement officers tried to detain them, but the criminals opened fire on the guards. As a result of the shelling, an employee of the internal affairs bodies was wounded. Special forces of the FSB of Russia, in cooperation with employees of the Rosgvardiya and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ingushetia, blocked the extremists in a house in the village of Zyazikov-Yurt as part of a counter-terrorism operation. Three security officers were killed, and eight more employees were injured.

Later, the press service of the head of the republic reported that four assailants of law enforcement officers in Ingushetia had been eliminated. Two more militants were detained. Those who committed the crime declared themselves supporters of ISIS. It was also reported about the detention of nine accomplices of the gang.
