US President Donald Trump's trade duties policy will not have a significant negative impact on Russia. Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Berlin Senate from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, told Izvestia on April 10.

"As for Russia, this customs policy does not have a significant impact on it. Trade between Russia and the United States has virtually stopped. And therefore, due to the sanctions policy that has been implemented since 2014, it will not affect the Russian economy," Lindemann said.

According to the politician, the Russian Federation has long found other trading partners, for example, in the Asian and Latin American markets. Meanwhile, Trump's customs policy is damaging the European economy, especially the German one, Lindemann noted.

"Due to the imposition of duties, products shipped to the United States become more expensive, which, of course, leads to lower sales, and this, in turn, leads to job losses, especially in Germany," he explained.

Lindemann also expressed support for ending the sanctions policy against Russia.

"The Russian market would be interesting for Germany. Cooperation between Germany and Russia, as it was before, is beneficial for companies in both countries," the politician concluded.

Earlier in the day, CNBC, citing the White House, reported that Trump had increased tariffs on goods from China to 145%. In turn, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said there were no winners in the trade war over tariffs.

On April 2, the American leader announced the introduction of base duties of 10% on products imported from other countries. For the European Union (EU), this figure was raised to 20%, and for the People's Republic of China (PRC) — to 34%. On April 4, China imposed duties of 34% against the United States on the same day. Later, the United States raised duties against China to 104%, to which Beijing responded by increasing its fees to 84%.

Later, on April 9, Trump postponed the introduction of duties for 75 countries for 90 days due to panic among Americans — the president described the situation on the markets after the introduction of tariffs as "quite gloomy." At the same time, he also announced an immediate increase in duties on products from China to 125%.
