- Aliev urged the European Union not to interfere in Azerbaijan's relations with Armenia and Turkey

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has criticized the intervention of the European Union (EU) in the negotiation process between Baku and Yerevan, saying that the calls of the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen for the opening of borders are inappropriate. This is stated on the website of the head of state.
"We only hear calls to open the border between Turkey and Armenia, between Armenia and Azerbaijan. What does Europe have to do with this? The relations between Turkey and Armenia, between Azerbaijan and Armenia are not their business. The further away the European Union is from these issues, the better for everyone," he said.
In addition, Aliyev also noted that although he understands the sympathy of European officials for Armenia, it is important not to forget about the key role of Azerbaijan and Georgia, which have created the infrastructure for cooperation with Central Asia.
The President also condemned the EU's attitude towards Georgia, calling it unacceptable.
"But not a word was said about Georgia. It's as if Georgia doesn't exist. This is unfair, and the attitude of the European Commission towards the internal processes in Georgia is absolutely unacceptable," Aliyev concluded.
On April 9, at the international forum "On the way to a New World Order", the President of Azerbaijan stated that Baku is ready to begin steps to build trust with Yerevan. He noted that the immediate restoration of friendly relations with Armenia seems unrealistic. According to him, it is premature to talk about any economic integration of the republics at this stage.
On April 2, Aliyev said that the signing of a peace treaty with Yerevan is possible only if two conditions are met. First, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group on the settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh should be abolished. Secondly, the Armenian constitution contains a provision on the unification of the historical territory between the countries, which is considered an "open territorial claim" to Azerbaijan.
