Sobyanin opened the reconstructed tram depot named after Apakov

After the reconstruction, the historic P.L.Apakov tram depot on Shabolovka, the oldest depot in Moscow, which began operating in 1909, was put into operation. The opening ceremony was attended by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who spoke about the depot on his Telegram channel.
"After the completion of a large-scale reconstruction, Moscow trams returned to their native home. The depot is legendary. It has been serving Moscow's most popular routes for more than 115 years. The author of the main building project is Vladimir Shukhov, who used the most modern engineering solutions at that time. The park received the name of carriage driver Pyotr Apakov in 1923," the mayor of the capital said.
In the mid-2000s, they wanted to demolish the depot building, but then the metropolitan authorities decided to revive it. Specialists have preserved the historical appearance of the depot — the spatial planning structure of the historical complex and the architectural and artistic design of the facades of the main building. At the same time, the traffic pattern inside the depot has completely changed, becoming more convenient. Previously, trams entered dead ends in reverse. Now, a through passage has been organized on the territory of the depot, and the wagons move according to the conveyor principle. This made it possible to speed up the maintenance and washing of wagons by 2 times.
