- A Brazilian Armed Forces mercenary was sentenced in absentia to seven years in prison.

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has sentenced Nicholas Cha, a 25-year-old Brazilian citizen, to seven years in prison in absentia for participating in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on April 10 by the Russian Prosecutor General's Office.
The court found Cha guilty under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict). It was established that in March 2022, he arrived in Ukraine via Lviv, where he underwent military training. After that, he was sent to the Kramatorsk area as part of the International Legion.
"For these actions, he received a financial reward in the amount of more than 211 thousand rubles," the Prosecutor General's office said on its website.
Before the offensive of the Russian troops (RF Armed Forces) on Severodonetsk, he left the territory of Ukraine and returned to Brazil.
Taking into account the position of the public prosecutor, the court imposed a sentence of seven years in prison to be served in a general regime colony.
Earlier, on April 7, a court sentenced a mercenary from Georgia to 14 years in prison in absentia for participating in the conflict on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). He took part in the fighting on the territory of the DPR against the Russian Armed Forces.
