The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) expressed gratitude to the governments of the United States and Russia for choosing Abu Dhabi as the location for the prisoner exchange. The WAM agency wrote about this on April 10.

"The Ministry expressed gratitude to the governments of the United States of America and the Russian Federation for their trust in the UAE and the choice of Abu Dhabi as a place to complete the prisoner exchange," the material says.

The Foreign Ministry stressed that the choice of Abu Dhabi for the exchange between the two countries reflects the close friendly relations that bind them with the UAE, noting that the state hopes that these efforts will contribute to supporting efforts to reduce tensions and strengthen dialogue and mutual understanding to achieve security and stability at the regional and international levels.

Earlier that day, Russian Artur Petrov, who was detained in Cyprus in 2023 at the request of the United States, was exchanged in Abu Dhabi for Ksenia Karelina, a US citizen convicted of treason in Russia. It is specified that Karelina was pardoned by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin. She was sentenced to 12 years in a general regime penal colony "for high treason in the form of providing financial assistance to a foreign state."
