- Lavrov announced the imminent establishment of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Aktau, Kazakhstan.

Preparations for the establishment of the Consulate General of Russia in the Kazakh city of Aktau have reached the finish line. This was announced on April 10 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"The upcoming establishment of our Consulate General in Aktau is another confirmation of the expansion of bilateral ties. I know that the preparations have already reached the finish line," he said at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu.
Lavrov expressed confidence that the opening of the new Consulate General would be an important step towards strengthening ties between the regions of Russia and Kazakhstan.
"This is a new tradition, they cooperate closely and regularly hold inter—regional forums," he said.
The Minister also expressed gratitude for the rich program prepared for the Russian delegation in Alma Ata. It included not only bilateral negotiations and meetings within the framework of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers, but also regular ministerial talks in the Central Asia plus Russia format.
In November 2023, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the opening of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Aktau. He also called Russia and Kazakhstan strategic partners and allies, noting, in particular, great prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the agricultural sector.
