The Moldovan opposition bloc "Victory" is preparing an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights over the criminal prosecution and detention of the head of Gagauzia, Eugenia Gutsul, the organization told Izvestia.

"The Victory bloc is making every effort to have Gagauzia return its bashkan. Lawyers are preparing a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights. We hold protests allowed by law. Rallies in support of the bashkan are held daily in Gagauzia, and there are rallies in her defense all over Moldova," the organization said.

On March 25, the head of Gagauzia, Eugenia Gutsul, was detained and sent to a pre-trial detention center for 20 days. However, on April 9, she was transferred to house arrest for 30 days.

She is accused in two criminal cases. The first one is related to violation of the order of management of financial means of electoral funds, falsification of documents and false statements in declarations during the elections of the head of Gagauzia in 2023. The second case is related to the illegal financing of the "Shor" party, which was recognized unconstitutional in June 2023.
