The European Union (EU) should create a good atmosphere for peace talks, including lifting some of the sanctions against Russia, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo said in an interview with Izvestia.

"We want to create a good atmosphere for peace talks, each side should make some step. A very good step is the exchange of prisoners. And, of course, such a step towards will be the lifting of part of the sanctions to create space for further peace talks. I do not believe in sanctions," said the Slovak Prime Minister.

Earlier, the EU adopted the 16th package of restrictions against Russia, now the 17th set of measures is being developed.
