Employees of the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that in 2025, fraudsters' call centers are actively developing a new scheme using an NFC sensor on a smartphone capable of scanning a card through attachment.

In conversation with aif.ru On Wednesday, April 9, representatives of the department said that the attackers were allegedly calling from the bank and asking for a link to update the application. Outwardly, it is an exact copy of a bank account, but upon activation, a PIN code is requested, which real banks never do.

After that, the scammers ask you to confirm the data by leaning the card chip against the phone's NFC sensor. The signal goes to the attacker, who records it on his phone. He is usually already at the ATM at this time. All that remains for him is to attach the NFC token, enter the received PIN code and withdraw the money.

Also on April 9, it became known that scammers began sending messages to people under the guise of notifications from the Federal Tax Service (FTS). Fraudsters use a fake official letter form to get personal data, notes 360.ru . It is possible to distinguish a fake document by incorrect subscriber numbers, fake signatures and a code, in addition, the names and initials of non-existent employees may be indicated on the letterhead, NSN clarifies.

On the same day, IT expert Vladimir Zykov, in an interview with RT, described the signs of phone hacking. In particular, this may be indicated by excessive heating and rapid discharge of the battery, especially at low loads and in standby mode. Shutting down or restarting for no reason is also a reason to be wary.

At the same time, the Interior Ministry warned that fraudsters had begun to extort money under the pretext of paying customs duties. The agency clarified that, according to the Customs Code of the Russian Federation, duties are levied only if duty-free limits are exceeded. For express delivery or Russian Post, this limit is €200 and 31 kg per order.
