On April 25, a United Nations conference opened to prepare the charter of a Universal International Organization for the Maintenance of Peace and Security, the Izvestia newspaper writes.

It was attended by over 850 representatives. The first plenary session was opened by Edward Stettinius, Interim Secretary of State of the United States of America.

There were exactly 14 days left until the Great Victory.

US President Harry Truman addressed the participants of the event by radio from Washington with a message in which he stressed the importance of this meeting. The Governor of California and the Mayor of San Francisco delivered greetings at the conference.

The material was published as part of the Izvestia special project "80 days to Victory."
