Happy Palm Sunday: the best postcards and pictures

Orthodox believers celebrate Palm Sunday on April 13. The holiday is dedicated to one of the main evangelical events — the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem after the resurrection of the righteous Lazarus. It was one of the most striking miracles of the Savior, which was reflected in iconography and painting. Especially for the celebration, Izvestia has prepared beautiful greeting cards that can be shared with friends and family during the holiday.

According to legend, after performing the miracle, Jesus went to Jerusalem, where he rode on a donkey accompanied by his disciples. The city was agitated by that time, because the day before Christ had raised Lazarus from the dead. The news of this quickly spread around the area. Crowds of people came out to greet the Savior, covering his path with palm branches.
Later, the event formed the basis of a holiday known in the church calendar as the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem. The first mention of it dates back to the 3rd century. On this day, solemn processions and processions were held, and palm branches were consecrated as a symbol of the divine authority of Christ, who confirmed the triumph of life over death.
However, in countries where palm trees do not grow, palm branches have been replaced by other plants. In Russia, fluffy willow branches have become a symbol of the holiday, which is just beginning to bloom on the eve of the celebration. Hence the popular name of the holiday — Palm Sunday.
Every year, the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, or Palm Sunday, is celebrated a week before Easter in the sixth week of Great Lent. From that time until the Resurrection of Christ, Holy Week takes place — the period of the strictest fasting, when Christians remember the last days of the Savior's earthly life.
Traditionally, on the eve of Palm Sunday, an all—night vigil is served in churches, and in the morning, Divine Liturgy. On the feast day, the clergy dress in green robes — the color of life-giving and eternal life.
On Saturday evening, believers come to the church for service and consecrate willow branches. According to an old custom, they are kept for a whole year until the next Palm Sunday. It is believed that the consecrated willow protects the house from evil and brings prosperity.

Postcards are usually accompanied by short greetings with warm wishes. On this day, it is customary to wish each other health, wisdom, peace of mind, peace and joy, as well as to praise the Lord for His great grace and mercy.
